All set for much-awaited NA-122 clash on Sunday

The ruling party and PTI rallied on the last day of campaigning and gave potential voters last push

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will contest in NA-122 and NA-144 constituencies on Sunday while political temperature of the country could not be higher.

National Assembly (NA) former speaker Ayaz Sadiq and PTI’s candidate Abdul Aleem Khan will contest the by-election in NA-122 among 17 candidates belonging to different political parties. Barrister Mian Aamir Hassan of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is another noted candidate for the by-poll.

In Okara’s NA-144 constituency, Ali Arif will be representing PML-N while Ashraf Khan PTI among five candidates. On the other hand, a provincial assembly constituency, PP-147 will also witness a contest among PML-N’s Mohsin Latif, Shoaib Siddique of PTI and Iftikhar Shahid of PPP.

Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) Punjab office has confirmed that at least 283 polling stations have been established for NA-122 and PP-147 constituencies in Lahore. While, in Okara at least 210 polling stations are there for voters in NA-144.

Separately, army has taken control of polling stations in NA-122 and NA-144 as the ECP has sent polling material to the centres. The army officials distributed ballots’ boxes, ballots and other material to the polling staff in district council’s election cell. The ECP has acquired at least 500 vehicles to shift staffers.

Security is a major concern for the elections as Muharram nears. Pakistan Army and Punjab Police contingents have been deployed in the constituency to counter any ill incident.

The campaigning for NA-122 by-poll ended on October 9 midnight. The ruling party and PTI rallied on the last day of campaigning and gave political fever one last push.

The staffers will leave for respective polling booths today.
