Transgender people block busy roads of Lahore to demand rights
The protest caused roads traffic jam and road blocks
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Members of transgender community on Saturday gathered on Mall Road, Lahore and staged a demonstration to demand rights, Dunya News reported.
According to details, transgender people led by Neeli, Sheeba, Rani, Reema and Saima blocked the traffic by staging a sit-in protest outside Punjab Assembly on Mall Road.
They chanted loud slogans and demanded basic rights in an unconventional way – with several lying on the road while other riding bikes.
The transgender community first gathered outside the Lahore Press Club and then proceeded to the Mall Road and staged sit-in outside Punjab Assembly.
The community protested against ill-treatment by the police and said that the law enforcement’s attitude to the transgender community is very inhumane.
They said they are also Pakistani and deserve equal rights. The transgender people said that a welfare center for them has been established in Sindh but such facility is not available in Punjab.
Even their quota of jobs has not been implemented, they complained, saying that they don’t have any other way.
