Islamabad: Clashes rage near Sector I-11 as operation in Afghan settlements continues

The illegal settlement with more than 1,000 houses has been 20% destroyed.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – More than 100 houses have been demolished in illegal settlements in Sector I-11 of the capital despite heavy resistance from the residents, reported Dunya News.

Residents including women and children threw stones on personnel as the operation began on the illegal settlements. Baton charge and shelling was also used to disperse protestors.

15 officials including Assistant Commissioner, duty magistrate, CDA and police personnel got injured due to stone throwing.

According to authorities, various mafia groups have grabbed land. On the other hand, spokesperson CDA has said that the settlements are built on land allotted by the authority adding that several allottees could not get their rights.

The operation had to be halted several times due to protests. The settlement with more than 1,000 houses has been 20% destroyed. Police has also arrested dozens of people which have been transferred to Sabzi Mandi police station.
