Earthquake rattles Islamabad along with Lahore, Peshawar

Severe jolts of the quake were felt at 1:59 AM at night.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – An earthquake rattled the cities the Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar along with various areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Azad Kashmir late Friday night. Severe tremors were felt in the Federal capital and various other areas. The earthquake was of 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale. Chairman Natural Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Major General Asghar Nawaz has advised to submit a report of apparent damage to the provinces by the tremors.

According to the details, severe jolts of the quake were felt at 1:59 AM at night. The cities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Hassan Abdal, Haripur, Havailian, Abbottabad, Mansehra and Butgram were rocked by the earthquake. These tremors were also felt in Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Malakand, Kohistan and Swat. Light cracks also formed in buildings in Bagh, Azad Kashmir.

According to the Seismological Centre, the quakes epicenter was 23 km in the north-east direction whereas its depth was recorded at 10km.

People terrorized by the severe shocks ran out of their homes reciting prayers. After shocks were also felt after the quake, the magnitude of which were recorded at 3.2 and 2.5.
