Awareness campaign was held under the title of 'No Tobacco Day'

LAHORE (Daily Dunya) – The ‘No Tobacco Day’ was observed on Thursday in Lahore and various events were held to create awareness of dangers of tobacco smoking.

Addressing the central event on this occasion at a local hotel, Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan said that the country cannot get rid of its growing tobacco problem just by legislation and minor penalties, adding that the attitudes of people need to be changed.

He said that hundreds of thousands of people die every year because of smoking and that 500 dollars are spent on smoking annually. Citing American Society’s research, Khan said the habit of smoking can cause 21 diseases out of which 12 are various forms of cancer.

The Speaker said that cigarette smoke affects hearing abilities more than aging and loud noise does. He said parents should strictly supervise their children to make sure they don’t indulge in any such activity.

The event was attended by prominent singer Jawad Ahmed, Zubair Malik, Khurram Hashmi, Secretary General Supreme Court Bar Association Chaudhry Maqsood and many others belonging to various sections of society.
