UK, Pakistan close to signing exchange of prisoners' agreement, document handed to UK authorities
LONDON: (Dunya News) – United Kingdom (UK) and Pakistan have on Tuesday entered final stages of signing an agreement between the countries for exchange of prisoners. The official document was handed over to the relevant UK department today. The principal accused in Imran Farooq murder case Moazzam Ali Khan may also be handed over to UK under this agreement, reported Dunya News.
According to Dunya News sources, the exchange of prisoners’ agreement draft has been handed over to the relevant department of the UK and the two governments will soon exchange their drafts. Sources claim that the first prisoner exchanged under the agreement will be Moazzam Ali Khan. The report prepared by Joint Investigation Team (JIT) after interrogating Moazzam Ali Khan has also been received by the UK authorities.
Sources told Dunya News that during the recent visit by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to UK, the two governments agreed to sign the agreement.
It is pertinent to mention here that Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has today met an important person and this meeting was also conducted for the same purpose. Progress in Imran Farooq murder case was also discussed in this meeting, sources told. A few days back, Interior Minister had hinted that progress has been made in Imran Farooq murder case.
Dunya News sources claim that important officials of British investigative agencies are also present in Pakistan to interrogate Moazzam Ali Khan. British investigative agencies had requested Pakistan government to give them access to Moazzam Ali Khan for interrogation.
The British investigative team includes Scotland Yard, police commander in charge of Imran Farooq murder case, Serious and Organized Crime Investigation Agency and National Crime Agency officials.
