Summary Director of The Second Floor was murdered just a few years after holding #UnsilencingBalochistan
KARACHI: (Dunya News, Web Desk) – Director of The Second Floor T2F has on Friday been shot dead by unidentified men in Karachi while returning home from her café in Sunset Lane, Karachi. Sabeen was on her way to home along with her mother when she was attacked. Her mother has also been critically injured but guard remained safe, reported Dunya News.
Sabeen’s dead body has been shifted to Jinnah Hospital according to hospital management. Hospital management told that her body received 5 bullets.
SSP South has said that Sabeen had been receiving threats. He said that her phone call record will be checked in order to get to the bottom of this horrific murder.
An event was held at T2F on Friday titled #UnsilencingBalochistan and she was returning just after holding the event when she was targeted. Wusatullah Khan, Mama Qadeer, Farzana Baloch and Mir Muhammad Ali Talpur attended the event.
T2F has always been described as a community space for open dialogue and Sabeen had been her founder director. Although it is a book store and café in its outlook, it is actually a space for intellectuals of all kinds, a place where they can share their thoughts with each other. Even the subjects most feared to be discussed in open were discussed by the people of intellect on this forum.
As soon as the news was aired on the TV, Twitter was abuzz with condemnation and demands for justice for Sabeen.
It was a damage most people couldn t take that easily. They were left speechless..
How many more? Who s next? Who is safe? #RIPSabeen

Nobody knows who did it and nobody knows who would provide #Justice4Sabeen
No idea whom to ask for Justice .. We are left clueless by this onslaught of unknown demons! Helpless and dejected! #RIPSabeen

People clearly seemed dejected. This may look like a curse to all Pakistanis. But that s how it is. People with not more than zero intellect are often seen handing out verdicts of patriotism.
A nation unworthy of its heroes. #RIPSabeen

Nobody knows as yet who killed her but not only there are allegations on ISI.
You speak for #Balochistan, you go to Kabristan in ISI s Pakistan. #RIPSabeen #UnsilencingBalochistan
— Zaid Hamid (@SirZaidHamid) April 24, 2015
And when you have people blaming ISI, you would certainly have apologists as well who would even say that Hamid Mir was never shot and it was all a drama. To them, Sabeen was killed only to malign ISI.
Sabeen dies and within an hour, an organized blame campaign against ISI. Hamid Mir Drama deja vu? #RIPSabeen

But this is more horrific.. People losing hope in this country..
What it means and costs to live in Pakistan has become just a bit clearer today. #RIPSabeen
— Ahmad Rafay Alam (@rafay_alam) April 24, 2015
Back when I returned to Pakistan, the brightest ray of hope I saw was @sabeen and #T2F, a great inspiration, today it s all dark. #RIPSabeen

Some could see a clear pattern. Talking about rights of Balochistan and getting killed is nothing unprecedented in this country.
Don t say a word about Balochistan or You will be silenced forever like @sabeen #RIPSabeen

Hassan Belal Zaidi questioned if this society will stand up for Sabeen the way she did for this society. We hope it does.
When they came for Shias, she stood. When they came for Ahmadis, she stood. When they came for Shias, she stood. Who will stand for @Sabeen?
— Mighty (@mightyobvious) April 24, 2015
And this is the biggest concern. Someone who tried throughout her life to give voice to the voiceless had been silenced.
#RIPSabeen I didn t know her but now I know her to be the great one who got killed for standing up and being voice of the voiceless.

Now people will ask for proofs, call each other names but what would that change?
Brace yourself for the green blooded patriots who would now ask for "proof". #RIPSabeen

Adnan Rasool gave a shut-up call to those calling her traitor.
Someone who has spent a life time trying to just enlighten the community is not a traitor... They are truest of all patriots.. #RIPSabeen

But these were the most hopeful of all the words said probably in this hour. And the words were by none but Sabeen herself. Though it all seems dark right now, there must be light at the other end of this tunnel. At least we hope so.
“I see a light, beckoning at the end of the tunnel that Pakistan has entered” - @sabeen #RIPSabeen
