19,272 suspects detained across Pakistan since Dec 24: report

Law enforcement agencies have submitted a report to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – A report regarding implementation of the National Action Plan against terrorism was presented to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday, Dunya News reported.

The report discloses that law enforcement agencies carried out 19,789 countrywide operations since December 24, 2014 in which 19,272 suspects were apprehended.

According to the report, 11,631 operations were conducted in Punjab, 3003 in Sindh, 3733 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 57 in Balochistan, 368 in Islamabad, 891 in Azad Kashmir, 35 in Gilgit Baltistan and 68 in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

During these operations, 2255 suspects were detained in Punjab, 3552 in Sindh, 9400 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3297 in Balochistan, 615 in Islamabad, 7 in Azad Kashmir, 10 in Gilgit Baltistan and 136 suspects were rounded up in FATA. 2497 people were arrested for misuse of loudspeaker.

The report says 580 cases were registered for speeches based on religious hatred and 5066 Afghan refugees were repatriated to their country during the period.

The law enforcing agencies acted on 259 calls made on 1717 and biometric verification of 56.6 million mobile SIMs was carried out through NADRA.
