Justice (r) Sardar Raza Khan takes oath as CEC

Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasirul Mulk administered the oath to Sardar Muhammad Raza.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Justice (retired) Sardar Raza took oath as new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) at Supreme Court in Islamabad today (Saturday).

Supreme Court Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk administered the oath to him at a ceremony that was attended by judges of the apex court, lawyers and senior government officials.

Under the Article-213 of the Constitution Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan will serve as Chief Election Commissioner for next five years

PROFILE:

Sardar Muhammad Raza son of Sardar Muhammad Yousaf born at village Namli Maira of Abbottabad District on 10-02-1945.

He passed his Matriculation examination in the Year 1958 from Government High School No. 2, Abbottabad and graduated from Government College, Abbottabad in 1962.

Afterwards, he did M.A in Economics and obtained LLB degree from Punjab University in the years 1965 and 1967 respectively.

He became a civil judge in 1968 and fast earned the reputation of one unwilling to budge from his principles. Khan became an additional judge for two years in 1993 and before taking permanent office at the Peshawar High Court. In 2002, he was sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

He was among the judges of the apex court who had refused to take oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order after the imposition of emergency by the then military ruler Pervez Musharraf in 2007.

Earlier on Friday, Justice Sardar Raza resigned from the post of Chief justice (CJ) of the Federal Shariat Court to assume charge of the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan.
