Marvi Memon staged sit-in outside Bannu jail, demanding release of arrested protestors.

BANNU (Web Desk) – Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Marvi Memon today (Saturday) staged sit-in outside Bannu jail, seeking release of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan tribal region.

More than hundred IDPs were detained on Thursday for pelting stones at police during protest against mismanagement at ration distribution center near Bannu Sports Complex.

Expressing solidarity with the IDPs, the PML-N leader posted a tweet:

Marvi Memon said that IDPs should be treated as guests and use of force against them will not be tolerated. They were only looking for ration and tents, she added.

She urged the DPO and Home Secretary to release the protestors immediately.

More than 800,000 people fled flighting in North Waziristan when the army began their offensive, code-named Zarb-e-Azb, against militants in mid-June.

The displaced poured into nearby towns where they faced overcrowding, a lack of food rations and high rents.
