Police dept gets Rs. 100 mn to buy 2 water-cannons; more security for Chinese, Japanese personnel

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Punjab government has granted Rs. 100 million to police department to buy two water-cannons to disperse processions. Orders to provide more security personnel for the security of Chinese and Japanese nationals working at Nandipur Power Project have also been issued by IG Punjab after reports of threat by security agencies.

 According to details, Punjab government had decided to buy 2 water-cannons in order to deal with processions and protests without threatening the lives of the protesters. Each water-cannon costs Rs. 50 million and a sum of Rs. 100 million has been granted. Punjab police will receive the water-cannons by the end of next month.

Moreover, IG Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera has ordered to send 2500 more personnel for the security of Chinese and Japanese nationals, working at Nandipur Power Project, after security agencies received credible threats towards their security. Presiding over an important meeting regarding safety of the Chinese and Japanese nationals, IG Punjab directed the police officers to ensure their security under any condition.

To equip the police, 27 double cabin vehicles, 110 single cabin vehicles and 250 pick-up vans have been granted to Punjab police that the departments will receive in November. It is pertinent to mention here that RPOs and DPOs had complained about old and unfit cars that created hurdles in catching the criminals.
