Electricity over-billing is being adjusted in three installments, the report states.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Federal Cabinet today (Friday) expressed dissatisfaction over interim audit report submitted by the Ministry of Water and Power, Dunya News reported.

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad.

During meeting, an audit report about alleged inflated power bills was presented before the cabinet.

The report was prepared separately by State Bank of Pakistan`s (SBP) audit companies after review of ten distribution companies` record.

The report states that there is a clear difference in the power consumption, generation and bills in July 2013 as compared to July 2014.

In July 2014, estimated bills were sent to many consumers without meter reading while additional burden of Rs4 billion was put on masses.

It was stated in the report that electricity over-billing is being adjusted in three installments.

According to sources, the cabinet termed the audit report insufficient and directed the concerned authorities to prepare a new report within one week.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed that affected power consumers should be compensated at earliest.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made for this year`s Hajj. He felicitated the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the officials concerned for making best possible arrangements for the pilgrims.

The Cabinet also reviewed performance of three ministries including Pakistan Railways, Planning and Development, and Petroleum.
