Elaborate security arrangements for Muharram across country
Army would assist the administration and would be kept on standby in case of any emergency.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Country-wide security arrangements for the month of Muharram have all been completed. Administration has beefed up the security arrangements in the vicinity of city’s sensitive areas.
According to Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Zaheerul Islam, entry of Afghan migrants is banned from Muharram 1 to Muharram 10 under section 144 whereas pillion riding would be banned during the month of Muharram.
Action would be taken against any incident of wall chalking and exhibition of weapons whereas renting out cars and bikes would also be prohibited.
Security arrangements in Quetta have also been finalized. According to the measures taken, 10 thousand police and FC officers would be deployed across the city and would scrutinize the significant thoroughfares and bargahs including all the entrance and exit routes.
Two controls rooms have been set up for 32 CC TV cameras. 2000 security officials dressed as commoners will keep a close eye on suspicious persons whereas army would be kept on the standby to ensure fool proof security.
On the other hand, Jhang police too has chalked out plan for security measures in the wake of Muharram and all sensitive areas would be secured by army.
According to District Police Officer (DPO), all entrance and exist routes to the processions whereas armed security officers would be deployed on the rooftops of houses and shops.
According to the security arrangements, 74 processions labeled as highly sensitive have been enlisted in category A whereas 198 convocations (majalis) have also been declared sensitive.
Contingents of Pakistan army will be present round the clock to assist district administration and police in case of emergency.
Interior Minister Punjab has also finalized the security plan according to which 801 areas have been designated highly sensitive whereas army would be deployed in Lahore, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, D G Khan and Bahawalpur.
4000 security officers would be deputed in Multan to monitor security measures.
Security plan in Karachi has also been defined. Police is ordered to stay on high alert. 20 thousand officers would look after the security and 5 teams of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), snipers and detection dogs would be assisting the arrangements. Contingent of Rangers would also be serving at the security whereas decision to deploy army has also been taken.
Sindh police has forwarded a letter to Interior Ministry Sindh requesting to provide 900 army men in south zone, 4 contingents in east zone and 3 contingents in west zone.
