Election Commission has sought footage of pamphlet airdropping in NA-149 constituency of Multan.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Election Commission of Pakistan on Wednesday took notice of distribution of pamphlets in favour of Javed Hashmi in NA-149 constituency of Multan.

The pamphlets were distributed through a helicopter a day after expiry of electoral campaign deadline.

According to ECP official, the matter will be forwarded to the senior officials and if the candidate found guilty, he could face six month jail sentence and Rs1,000 fine for violation of code of conduct.

Later, Javed Hashmi told media that airdropping of pamphlets was not a part of election campaign. He said it was only advertisement as the same pamphlet has been published in newspapers today.

Hashmi claimed that a man named Azhar Baloch booked a helicopter from Multan Flying Club to drop pamphlets.

It is pertinent to mention here that by-election in NA-149 constituency will be held tomorrow (Thursday). The National Assembly seat had fallen vacant after former president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Javed Hashmi resigned and announced to contest by-poll as an independent candidate.

Polling will begin at 9:00am tomorrow.
