Individual verification of PTI MNA's resignation is necessary: Ayaz Sadiq
PTI had requested the NA Speaker to summon the resigning members collectively.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Thursday stated that individual verification of resignations of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members is necessary to avoid any legal challenge.
Talking to media in Islamabad, Ayaz Sadiq said that any member can claim in the coming days that he resigned under pressure.
“This is not D-Chowk, where all the members could be invited at once,” he said.
The NA Speaker said under the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the National Assembly, the resigning member will have to appear before the Speaker in person to satisfy him that the member was resigning voluntarily and the resignation is genuine.
Rejecting PTI s accusation regarding biasness, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said he is performing is constitutional and lawful role. Opposition members have always been allowed to speak in the House.
Earlier today, National Assembly Secretariat conveyed to Pakistan Tehrik-e Insaf that its members will have to appear individually before the Speaker to verify their resignations.
The Secretariat has written letters to Deputy Parliamentary Leader of PTI in the National Assembly Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Dr. Arif Alvi in this regard.
The two had requested the Speaker to summon the resigning members collectively.
