Zarb-e-Azb: 15 suspected militants killed in North Waziristan airstrikes

The army launched the much-awaited operation in North Waziristan Agency on June 15.

RAWALPINDI (Web Desk) – At least 15 suspected militants have been killed in latest military airstrikes in North Waziristan tribal region on Monday, Dunya News reported.

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), gunship helicopters targeted militant hideouts in Tabayi area, killing 15 militants. Ten explosive-laden vehicles and five terrorist hideouts were also destroyed in the action.

Earlier on Wednesday, army struck five militant hideouts in Dattakhel and Shawal Valley, killing 65 insurgents.

In the first batch of airstrikes, the military reported killing 35 militants in three hideouts in Datta Khel, a town in North Waziristan. Hours later, it said a second batch of airstrikes destroyed two more hideouts in the tribal region s Shawal Valley, killing 30 more militants.

According to Associated Presss, last week’s deaths brought to almost 975 the number of militants the military says it has killed in air and ground attacks in North Waziristan. The area, however, is off limits to journalists, making it impossible to confirm military claims independently.

The strikes came a day after the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for attack on the navy dockyard in Karachi.
