Pakistan celebrates 68th Independence Day
Independence Day is being celebrated with national zeal and fervour.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Independence Day is being celebrated throughout Pakistan on 14th August with great splendor, joy and respect for the motherland.
The day started with thirty-one gun salute in federal capital and twenty-one gun salute in provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered at mosques for peace and prosperity of the country.
The main flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Presidency in Islamabad where President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif hoisted the national flag. Federal ministers, services chiefs and other senior civil and military officials attended the event.
Change of guard ceremony was held at Mazar-e-Quaid-e Azam where a smart contingent of Pakistan Navy took charge while a graceful ceremony was held at Allama Iqbal s mausoleum where jawans of Pak Army took charge from Punjab Rangers.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also visited Iqbal s mausoleum in Lahore and offered prayer. In Peshawar, the main flag hoisting ceremony was held at Malik Sa’ad Shaheed Police Lines where Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak hoisted the flag. The ceremony was attended by provincial ministers and other high ranking authorities.
In his Independence Day address, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif paid tributes to the security forces fighting militants in restive North Waziristan tribal region.
A special parade of armed forces and a fly past ceremony were held on the occasion. The ceremony was attended by services chiefs, foreign ambassadors, members of parliament along with other key personalities of the country
Different events including seminars, conferences, lectures, debates, speech contests, exhibitions and stage plays have been arranged by different organizations to mark the day.
People from various walks of life have decorated their houses with national flags and the buildings, city shopping centres, bazaars and all the main roads are also being adorned with flags and fancy lights.
