Shireen Mazari said Ban Ki-moon should resign as he is unfit for the office of UN SG.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Central Information Secretary Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), Shireen Mazari, on Wednesday expressed shock over UN Secretary General's condemnation of Hamas rockets fired into Israel while condoning the Israeli military aggression.

“Ban's statement that Israel had the right to self defence showed that the Secretary General was nothing more than a puppet in the hands of the US,” Mazari stated.

She said the UN chief should at least read and understand Chapter VII of the UN charter which defines self-defence and its limits before condoning what is clearly Israeli state terrorism against the people of Gaza.

Mazari also said Ban Ki-moon should familiarise himself with the power the Charter gives to the office of the Secretary General to intervene in times of crises anywhere in the globe.

She said Ban had been a major disappointment in terms of defining a positive and proactive role for the UN.

“Instead he had almost completely destroyed the UN's credibility in terms of conflict resolution, countering state aggression and establishing peace. His latest absurdity on Gaza shows that he is unfit for the office of UN SG and should resign. His inability to condemn the massacre of innocent Palestinians in Gaza is shameful and unacceptable,” the PTI spokesperson said.

She said Pakistan has always been an active player in the UN and a lead state in peacekeeping activities as they have evolved and expanded. It cannot simply watch silently as this aspect of the UN's central function of maintaining international peace is run aground by the man incharge of strengthening it - the Secretary General.
