Govt announces 2-week long Independence Day celebrations from Aug 1

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government on Friday announced that the celebration of 67th Independence Day of the country will span two weeks beginning from August 1, Dunya News reported.
Reportedly, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will address the flag hoisting ceremony at D-Chowk Islamabad and sources reveal that no other political activity or protests will be allowed during that time. Prominent personalities including armed forces’ chiefs, foreign ambassadors, members of parliament along with other key personalities of the country will participate in the event.
Government decided to observe the 67th Independence Day of Pakistan will full festivity and fervor. Prime Minister is reportedly due to hold key address after hoisting the flag at D-Chowk.
The key personalities will grace the event. The celebrations will span over two weeks across the country.
According to details, an important meeting in this regard took place at Prime Minister House where it was decided that the tradition of celebrating Independence Day during the time of 1997-1999 will be revived.
It was discussed in the meeting that the tradition of celebrating Independence Day with national zeal and fervor had stopped after former President Pervez Musharraf took over the government.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rasheed will oversee the arrangements of the special event. According to the official sources, the main ceremony used to take place in closed hall of Convention Center but this time the ceremony will take place at D-Chowk in front of the parliament house.
Reportedly, Prime Minister will address the nation after flag-hoisting ceremony where he will pay rich tributes to Pakistan Army martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of motherland during the military operation Zarb-e-Azb.
The government will also renew its pledge to continue its efforts until the terrorism is routed out and peace is restored across the country.
Sources say that Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Rashid Mehmood, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, Air Chief Tahir Rafique Butt and Naval Chief Asif Sandila, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Chairman Senate Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, federal ministers, foreign ambassadors and prominent personalities from across the country will be in attendance.
The military band will play the themes of the national song to revive the national spirit on this occasion. Information Ministry has assigned the administration of state television to provide every support in solidarity of Pakistan Army.
According to sources, the celebrations will continue in all four provinces and across the country for at least two weeks and special additional celebrations will take place to show solidarity with the army.
Sources further said that owing to the Independence Day celebrations, political activity of any kind including protests and sit-in demonstrations will be banned in the federal capital.
