ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A 5.4 magnitude earthquake jolted various parts of country on Tuesday.

The terrified residents came out of their homes by reciting Kalma Tayyaba however no casualty was reported.

The areas where the jolts were felt included Rawalpindi, Chiniot, Gilgit-Baltistan region, Ghazar, Skardu, Batagram, Abottabad, Haripur, Mansehra and Muzaffarabad areas of the coutrny s northern region.

The magnitude of the quake was recorded as 5.4 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometres in north western Kashmir region.

Pakistan straddles part of the boundary where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, making the country susceptible to earthquakes.

It was hit by a 7.6-magnitude quake on October 8, 2005 that killed more than 73,000 people and left about 3.5 million homeless, mainly in AJK.

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake devastated several areas in southwestern Baluchistan province in September last year. It killed at least 370 people and left 100,000 homeless.
