Lahore: Gullu Butt sent on 14-day judicial remand

LAHORE (Web Desk) - A local court in Lahore sent Gullu Butt on 14-day judicial today (Thursday), Dunya News reported.

The accused was brought to a local court in Model Town for the second time amid tight security.

Earlier, he was surrounded and beaten up by angry mob including lawyers within the court premises. The police shifted him to hospital after he fell unconscious.

Gullu, an alleged PML-N activist, was caught on cameras vandalising public property during clashes between police and protesting Tahirul Qadri’s supporters near Minhajul Quran International Secretariat in Model Town area on Tuesday.

He was arrested yesterday after Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed the inspector general of police for his immediate arrest.

ANOTHER VICTIM DIES

Earlier today, another victim of Tuesday’s violent clash succumbed to his injuries at Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital, increasing the death toll to 9. The victim was worker of Tahirul Qadri’s party Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

MODEL TOWN PROTEST

At least eight people were killed and 85 injured in Lahore on Tuesday when the police clashed with supporters of Dr Tahirul Qadri.

Qadri, a leader of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), a religio-political party, has been trying to form a grand alliance against the government while demanding a change in the present system through a revolution. He has promised to return to Pakistan on June 23.

The clashes started when PAT members tried to stop the police from removing barriers outside their leader s house in Lahore s Model Town Colony and the party secretariat.
