Karachi airport under siege as attackers enter old terminal

A number of grenade attacks have been reported.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s largest commercial airport Jinnah International Airport has come under siege Sunday night when approximately 5 to 7 attackers breached the security by attacking the Hajj terminal through firing and hand grenades and infiltrated the airport, Dunya News reported.
According to reports, the attackers entered in uniforms of security personnel and had forged identity badges.
Reportedly, the attackers also succeeded in reaching the runway where firing is being exchanged between security personnel and attackers.
At least four security personnel have been martyred in exchange of fire. Reports also say that one of the attackers was killed while another one was taken into custody.
Reportedly, there still are a number of terrorists inside.
The airport has been closed completely and those inside have been told to stay inside.
Rescue teams are rushing to the airport and reportedly, the airport security has called contingents comprising at least 500 security personnel.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took notice of the incident and ordered Director General (DG) Rangers and security agencies to take strict action.
Reportedly, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif contacted DG rangers and offered full support.
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson Semi Jamali said that authorities are trying to identify the bodies through ID cards.
