NA 68 vote count: ECP terms discrepancy a 'typing error'
ECP has decided not to legally pursue presiding and returning officers in the violated constituency.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) termed, Wednesday, the earlier discovered vote count contradiction a typist’s mistake and decided not to pursue legally against the presiding and returning officers in NA 68 constituency where Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had won, Dunya News reported.
Earlier, ECP completed its investigation over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s complaint against vote count in NA-68 constituency of Sagodha.
Surprisingly, major discrepancy has emerged in the figures provided by the presiding and returning officers.
According to presiding office, Nawaz Sharif received only 779 votes while returning officer showed 7,879 votes in favour of the premier during May 2013 general elections.
On the other hand, only 1500 votes were cast at polling station number 262.
Due to prevailing situation, the Election Commission has summoned a high-level meeting to discuss the matter.
It’s worth noting that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was declared winner from NA-68 constituency.
