FBI agent Joel Cox not protected by diplomatic immunity: Foreign Office

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said on Thursday that United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent Joel Cox, arrested in Karachi and released on bail, does not have diplomatic immunity. She said that US has been given consular access to the FBI official, Dunya News reported.
Foreign Office spokeswoman termed allegations about safety of Pakistan’s nuclear technology and its alleged transfer to Saudi Arabia baseless and absurd.
During weekly briefing, she reiterated that the US agent Joel Cox does not enjoy diplomatic immunity. She said that US agent is being investigated, adding that US is in continuous contact with Pakistan over the matter.
She said that Pakistan is trying to deal with polio virus and that the cause was harmed by false vaccination campaign organized for Bin Laden chase in which even United Nation’s institutions were used.
Spokeswoman said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Iran is very important because the discussion about economic development and regional stability will also take place other than the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.
Talking about India’s rejection of visas for pilgrims, she said that Pakistan summoned India’s Deputy High Commissioner and recorded its protest.
Tasnim said that Pakistan has sent 2 aircraft of relief goods for Afghanistan flood affectees, adding that another airplane with relief goods will departure today (Thursday).
