Taliban, govt committees hopeful of ceasefire extension: Samiul Haq

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Government and Taliban committees agreed on Wednesday to meet Taliban Shura soon. Taliban negotiation committee’s patron Maulana Samiul Haq said that he expects a ceasefire extension from Taliban side soon, Dunya News reported.
A joint session of Taliban and government committees took place at Punjab House Islamabad and was chaired by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar. The development in negotiation process, future strategy about furthering the process came under discussion during the session.
Talking to media after the session, Samiul Haq said that the session expressed satisfaction over progress of Taliban negotiations process. He said that both parties have once again agreed to solve the problem through negotiations.
He said both committees will try to meet again this week, adding that if Taliban have complaints about ceasefire then the government has complaints as well.
Samiul Haq said that a subcommittee will be formed to address complaints of both parties, adding that all the facilities will be provided to subcommittee by the Interior Ministry.
Answering a question, Samiul Haq said that Taliban committee will establish contact with Taliban Shura immediately. He said if Taliban gave a list, the committee will put forward the list before government committee adding that the committee expects that Taliban will extend the ceasefire.
Samiul Haq said that both sides have a sense of confidence and that he is now satisfied that the government and army are on same page.
