Rawalpindi: 10 killed in RA Bazaar blast, TTP claims responsibility
The explosion took place in an area where there are many military installations.
RAWALPINDI (Web Desk) - At least ten people including six security personnel have been killed in a blast in Rawalpindi’s RA Bazaar on Monday morning, Dunya News reported.
The blast also wounded 17 people including three school children.
Police and military officials said a suicide bomber was possibly involved in Monday's attack, which was powerful enough to smash windows in nearby buildings.
"Apparently it was a suicide attack," a military official told AFP.
Asad Malik resident in the RA bazaar area, where the attack took place, told AFP that the intensity of the blast shattered glass windows in the area.
Muhammad Tuaqeer, a police officer in RA Bazaar, said soldiers had cordoned off the area and ambulances shifted the injured to the nearby military hospital.
On the other hand, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility of the attack.
Rawalpindi is next to the capital of Islamabad and is home to Pakistan’s military headquarters. The explosion happened in an area where there are many military installations.
The blast came one day after 25 troops were killed in Bannu district in one of the deadliest incidents against the forces fighting militants in the tribal regions.
The Pakistani Taliban had lso claimed responsibility for that incident.
