Taliban chief, spokesman booked for Karachi blast
It is for the first time that Taliban chief has been nominated by name in any case.
KARACHI: (Dunya News) – A formal case to probe Karachi blasts that martyred 4 cops including SSP CID Chaudhry Aslam has been registered at PIB police station charging Taliban chief Maulvi Fazalullah and spokesman Shahidullah Shaid with multiple homicides. Registered complainant of the case is Police inspector Malik Adil who was part of Ch Aslam’s squad.
Taliban leadership has been booked under anti-terrorism sections. According to the main complainant in the case Malik Adil, at least 3 suspicious men were sighted on expressway when he passed by, ahead of Ch Aslam’s security squad. The complainant also reported that the explosion took place immediately after his car passed ahead of the spot.
Inspector Adil says he can identify those suspects if brought in front of him. It merits mentioning here that this is the first time that Taliban chief has been nominated by name in any investigation.
A breakthrough was reported when an alleged suicide bomber was identified on Friday, however case could not be registered yesterday because of a reported dispute among the investigating authorities about the nature of the attack.
The suspect was identified as one Nematullah. Police has arrested at least five relatives of the suspect for investigation. According to police, suspect was a resident of Pirabad area of Karachi and was trained as militant in Afghanistan.
Police also said that the suspect has been associated with various banned terrorist outfits. Nematullah was in the list of police’s most wanted suspects.
Police has arrested at least five family members of the suspect for investigation and DNA samples of suspect’s brothers have been sent in the laboratory for examination. The identification of Nematullah was done with the help of finger prints.
SSP CID Chaudhry Aslam was martyred on Thursday along with 3 security personnel as a bomb detonated at expressway near Essa Nagri cemetery in Karachi. Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan Mohmand Agency had claimed responsibility.
It merits mentioning that several attacks had previously targeted SSP CID Chaudhry Aslam. On September 19, 2011, a suicide attack targeting his residence was carried out in Karachi. Addressing the media after the incident, Chaudhry Aslam had vowed to bury the attackers in the same place.
Also in January 2006, Gunmen had attacked SSP Aslam in Gizri area of Defence.
