Missing persons: SC rejects Khawaja Asif's reply

The Chief Justice inquired about the source of all details from Khawaja Asif.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court (SC) has rejected Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s statement over missing persons on Friday.

During the hearing, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif submitted details over missing persons in court.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case pertaining to missing persons.

According to details, Khawaja Asif said that not even a single missing person was under the custody of army, adding that there were different categories. Missing persons were detained in internment centers, he added.

The Chief Justice questioned if he could provide details of all missing persons and the interment centres in which they were detained.

Mr Asif said two persons out of 35 died in custody due to natural causes while two were in internment centre. Eight undeclared detainees were in Afghanistan while three were residing in North Waziristan.

Seven others could be produced before the court but they cannot be categorized as missing persons, he added.

The Chief Justice inquired about the source of all details from Khawaja Asif.

The hearing is still underway in Islamabad.
