Prominent playwright Fatima Surayya Bajia passes away at 85
She will be laid to rest on Thursday
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Prominent playwright Fatima Surayya Bajia passed away on Wednesday at the age of 85, Dunya News reported.
According to details, Bajia was ailing for a long time and her demise has left the whole family in grief. She will be laid to rest tomorrow (Thursday).
Bajia’s brother Anwar Maqsood, another prominent writer, said she was ailing for a long time and that her demise has left the whole family in shock and grief.
Fatima Surayya was a prominent personality in the world of literature, as was her family. Prominent host and literary personality Anwar Maqsood is her brother while Zubaida Apa and poet Zahra Nigar are her younger sisters.
The late playwright also worked for radio and stage other than writing for television. She was born in Indian city Hyderabad on September 1, 1930.
Bajia was awarded the Pride of Performance award in 1997 by the government of Pakistan. Other than that, she has been awarded with various other national and international honours, out of which Japan’s higher civil award is also worth mentioning.
In 2012, she was also awarded President of Pakistan’s Hilal-e-Imtiaz distinction.
The drama history of Pakistan Television is considered incomplete without her. She left a mark especially for her dramas Shama, Aroosa, Afshan and Zeenat.
