Justice Mamoon-ur-Rasheed heard the petition calling appointment of Sethi as PCB chairman illegal

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed petition against Najam Sethi as non-maintainable, rejecting the claim that his appointment as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman is illegal.

Justice Mamoon-ur-Rasheed heard the petition. PCB’s lawyer Tafzal Rizvi argued that the appointment of Najam Sethi as PCB chief is in line with the constitution and legal framework of the cricket body. Petitioner Nasir Iqbal refuted to his arguments saying appointment of Sethi and extension given to Atif Aijaz as board of governor are illegal. He said the directions given by former premier Nawaz Sharif became ineffective after his disqualification.

The notifications of appointment of Najam Sethi and extension of Atif Aijaz became ineffective after ex-PM’s ouster, he added. Iqbal pleaded that appointment of Sethi as PCB chairman through August 6 notification should be made illegal. However, the court ruled against the petition and dismissed it on the basis of non-maintainability.

Previously, Najam Sethi had been elected unopposed as the chairman of the board in a special meeting of the Board of Governors of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). His appointment was challenged in LHC by Advocate Nasir Iqbal on August 12.
