NA body wants PCB to review Kaneria's case

ISLAMABAD (APP): The National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Wednesday recommended the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to review leg-spinner Danish Kaneria’s case as it is a matter of his bread and butter (cricket).
The National Assembly Standing Committee on IPC met here at the Parliament House on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Abdul Qahar Khan Wadan, in which matters related to cricket were discussed.
Kaneria, was life banned by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in June 2012.
He said that ECB had banned him from playing cricket based on the mere false statements of convicted English Country cricketer, Mervyn Westfield.
In the meeting, committee member Ramesh Kumar Vankwani raised a question to PCB regarding Kaneria on which the PCB replied that if a member board (ECB) bans a player than it applies to all the member boards according to the International Cricket Council (ICC) rules.
However, the committee members stressed that cricket is everything for the leg-spinner, therefore PCB must look into his matter again.
The PCB also briefed the committee about its different programmes to uplift the game of cricket.
PCB Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed in the meeting said various measures have been taken for the betterment of the game.
“PCB is working on National cricket plan, regional cricket, game education and sports sciences,” he said.
He said cricket is functioning in 16 regions which are further divided into 98 districts and under-19, U-18 and inter district tournaments are being played regularly.
“Pakistan is the second nation in the world in which cricket is played most frequently (850 matches per year),” he said.
In the meeting, the committee members asked PCB to work on the discipline and manner of the cricketers.
A question regarding the push-ups done by Test Skipper Misbah ul Haq after scoring a century in the first test against England, was also raised by committee member Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan as what message Misbah was sending by doing pus-ups. The PCB said Misbah is 42 years of age and by doing this he wanted to prove he is fully fit ready to play at the moment.
Speaking about the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Chairman PSL Najam Sethi said a senior security official of Karachi assured him fool-proof security to hold the PSL there.
Sethi also said that many VVIPS wanted to get accommodated through PCB on the England tour to witness the matches and we had many difficulties in accommodating them as we have to go from pillar to post to arrange for the tickets.
In the meeting IPC Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, praised Sehti for his efforts in encouraging the game.
