2nd ODI: Morgan, Root partnership puts England on top in 252-run chase

England 1-0 up in the five match ODI series

LORD’S (Web Desk) – Pakistan set a total of 252 runs against England in the second one-day international against England being played at Lord’s.

Men in Green won the toss and opted to bat first but we left to three down with only two runs on the board in the initial overs of the match as skipper Azhar Ali and Sharjeel Khan headed towards the pavilion without scoring any runs while Chris Woakes and Mark Wood caused considerable problems for the Pakistani side early on in the game.

However, Pakistan’s wicket keeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmad played a responsible innings and continuously rotated the strike as he was able to score his career’s 2nd ODI hundred after being dismissed for 105 runs during the final overs the innings. Imad Wasim was the other main contributor with the bat as he scored 63 runs.

Chris Woakes and Mark Wood took three wickets each for England whereas Adil Rashid and Liam Plunkett were able to dismiss one Pakistani batsman each as Men in Green finished their innings at 251 runs after they were bowled out with two balls remaining in the innings.

Pakistan were able to get the early breakthrough of Roy as Mohammad Amir was able to uproot the stumps of the English opener on the second ball of the second innings whereas Imad Wasim was able to grab the wicket of Alex Hales.

However, English skipper Eoin Morgan played a responsible knock along with middle-order batsman Joe Root as both scored a hundred-run stand. Morgan played an innings of 68 runs before being dismissed by Imad whereas Root was still at the crease batting in his sixties at the end of 31 overs as the hosts were batting at 148 runs at the lost of three wickets.

England are 1-0 up in the five-match ODI series as they beat Pakistan by 44 runs through the D/L method in the first ODI played at Rose Bowl, Southampton.
