Kumar confessed to shooting his wife to death over a slight delay in dinner

(Web Desk) - A 60-yr-old Indian man was arrested after shooting his 55-yr-old wife on Saturday allegedly over delay in serving him dinner.

Ashok Kumar, returned drunk to his home in Ghaziabad, near Delhi and demanded food from his wife, Sunaina.

Kumar became “infuriated” after his wife delayed serving him dinner and had threatened her with the gun before shooting her, said their son Rinku, according to The Times of India.

Sunaina was taken to the hospital after receiving a shot to the head. The doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Police registered an FIR against Kumar on the basis of a complaint lodged by his son Rinku. Rinku’s wife and their two kids were also present in the house at the time of the incident.

Kumar has confessed to his crime and now regrets his actions, the police said.

“Around 9pm, my father returned home drunk and asked my mother for dinner around 11pm. A quarrel broke out between them as my mother refused to serve food immediately,” he said.

“Infuriated over the delay, my father whipped out a gun and threatened her. I, my wife and [my brother] Tinku tried to intervene. But he opened fire and the bullet hit my mother on her head. She collapsed at the spot."

Police officer Rupesh Singh told the BBC  that Kumar “used to drink every day” and his wife had wanted to talk to him about his habit, but “he wanted dinner immediately”.

“He got frustrated with the delay and shot her,” the policeman said.

India has been home to many incidents of domestic violence and harassment over the years.

Violent crimes against women have been highly reported but women still continue to be victims of abuse under patriarchal family systems.
