The dead mammal was spotted by locals who later informed the police.

MUMBAI (Web Desk) - A 35-foot dead whale washed ashore on Thursday night at Juhu beach in India‘s Mumbai city.

The whale weighing around four tonnes, was spotted after 10 pm by some night joggers.

The dead mammal has been identified as a Bryde‘s Whale.

Police and forest department officials are examining the animal. Based on the investigation, it is said that it may have died two one or two days ago. It shows no signs of external injury.

“From initial examination, the whale seems to have died a day or two back. It bloated and was then carried in by the tide to the beach,” Assistant Conservator of Forest said.

A team of four veterinarians are likely to conduct autopsy at the beach and then move the carcass to the forest department’s conservatory in Airoli.

The incident comes weeks after 45 short-finned pilot whales were stranded along a 15-km beach stretch in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu.
