Facebook refused to provide information on defamation which angered Interior Minister Nisar

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A notable personality from judiciary was being made controversial on social media through a post. Facebook administration refused to provide information on the matter.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar said on Wednesday that the refusal by American officials and Facebook management was disappointing.

Nisar stated, “Any international company cannot be allowed to make a controversy out of our important people”. “We will not allow defamation and false accusations on social media in the name of free speech”, he added.

He assured that a system of surveillance with PTA’s consultation will be announced soon to stop the illegal use of social media. He also hinted that the authorities would consider launching local versions of Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter in Pakistan.

It must be noted here that a JIT was formed on Tuesday to investigate blasphemous content on social media. Justice Siddiqui of Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed the government to take action against it.

In 2012, Youtube was banned in Pakistan due to blasphemous content. The ban was lifted in 2016 after launching a local version of the Google-owned video streaming site.
