Summary Maria defeated Millie Tomlinson in the final to claim the tournament for 2nd time in a row

LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Pakistani Squash star Maria Toorpakai Wazir has on Saturday defeated Millie Tomlinson of the United Kingdom (UK) to win the Nash Cup, PSA W5 for the second time in a row. Maria successfully defended her title against the other Squash top seed by 3 games to 2.

Maria seemed outclassed in the beginning and seemed unable to fix her mistakes. Losing the first game, she must have been thinking of her defeat at the hands of the same opponent in January earlier this year. However, she came back strongly in the second game and won it to level the scores. The 3rd game was a closer and Millie got the better of the Pakistani. But the 4th one was a complete Maria show. She came back with such enthusiasm that Millie seemed to be no match to. A couple of controversial decisions going against Maria brought Millie to the lead in the final but the Pakistani was quick to overcome the Briton and came back stronly to win the final game 11 points to 9 and ultimately the tournament as well.

In the semi-final of the tournament, Maria defeated Cyrielle Peltier of France in a crunchy game. Maria looked strong and breezed through the first game by 11 points to 4. However, Peltier created all sorts of difficulties in the second game but the Pakistani No. 1, and world No. 51, came back strongly in the third game to beat Peltier and make her way to the final of the tournament where she also defeated Millie Tomlinson, world No. 54.

Nash Cup s page announced Maria s victory and Maria shared the announcement on her page.

Messages congratulating Maria on her brilliant victory started surfacing on Twitter immediately after her brilliant victory in the final. Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MNA Ayesha Gulalei congratulated Maria on her victory.

Others also started congratulating the Wazir.

It is pertinent to mention here that Maria is the first player to successfully defend the title in Nash Cup.
