WARSAW:-Teenage striker Arkadiusz Milik is to join Germany s Bayer Leverkusen, his club Gornik Zabrze said on Tuesday.
The 18-year-old becomes the latest in a string of internationals to head westwards to the Bundesliga, which has offered fertile ground for Polish talent.
The Pole currently in the spotlight is Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, 24, who is reportedly in the sights of English Premier League sides.
Milik is set to join Leverkusen in time for their January training camp in Portugal, and his contract runs until June 2018.
In just 18 months at Gornik - where he arrived from feeder club Rozwoj Katowice, also in the gritty southern region of Silesia - Milik scored 11 goals in the Polish top flight.
"We believe that he s going to become a really big name," said Gornik, who did not disclose the player s price tag.
Milik made his senior Poland debut in October in a friendly at home to South Africa in Warsaw, and was a late substitute in the rain-delayed 2014 World Cup qualifier against England the following week.
He scored his first international goal on Friday when Poland beat Macedonia 4-1 in a friendly in Turkey.
