PML-N leaders, family members meet Nawaz, Maryam in Adiala Jail
Jail authorities have disallowed convicts' counsels from meeting them today.
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and members of Sharif family on Thursday held first meeting with ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz in Adiala Jail after their arrest.
A total of 15 people including Pervez Rasheed, Ayaz Sadiq, PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz met the former PM while the jail authorities have disallowed convicts’ counsels, Khawaja Harris and Amjad Pervez from meeting them today.
Talking to media after the meeting, former information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb conveyed message of Nawaz Sharif to the people and asked them to vote for PML-N. She said, “Your quaid and his daughter are brave.”
On the other hand, Nawaz Sharif has been given a place for walk in the jail whereas he has also been provided with cook and doctor.
On July 13, Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were arrested and shifted to jail after they landed at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.
Nawaz was sentenced to 11 years in prison by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court over his family’s purchase of luxury apartments in London, whereas, his daughter Maryam was sentenced to seven years in prison.
The ex-premier’s son-in-law was also sent to jail for one-year on the same charge.
The Avenfield reference is one of the three corruption references, filed by the National Accountability Bureau(NAB) on orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), which disqualified Nawaz Sharif, ousting him from premiership and finding him guilty in the Panama Paper case verdict.
The verdict came at a time when Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif were in London to see Begum Kulsom Nawaz Sharif who has been undergoing treatment for cancer.
