SC issues show cause notice to Talal Chaudhry in contempt of court case

The court rejected Chaudhry's appeal seeking time for three weeks to hire lawyer.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday has rejected Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Talal Chaudhry’s appeal seeking time for three weeks to hire lawyer in contempt of court case against him.

During the hearing headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal, the three-member bench asked Talal Chaudhry how much time he requires to appoint a lawyer over which, he said that he needs three weeks for this as counsels are busy.

The court issued show cause notice to PML-N leader and adjourned the hearing till next Tuesday.

It is to be mentioned here that suo moto notice was taken after Talal denigrated Panama Case verdict on myriad occasions.

While equating judges with idols in Jaranwala rally, Talal urged PML-N president Nawaz Sharif to oust them from courts. He said there was no hope of justice till these judges were sitting in the courts.

Earlier, SC had also issued contempt of court notice to Minister of Privatisation Daniyal Aziz while proceeding against him will be launched from February 7.

The apex court had also sentenced former PML-N leader Nehal Hashmi to one month in prison over similar charges.

On May 28, Hashmi triggered a political storm by threatening the members of the joint investigation team (JIT) and Supreme Court judges of “dire consequences” after their retirement for probing Sharif family in connection with Panama Papers case.
