Bilawal Bhutto condemns use of 'brutal force' against protesting PIA employees

Bilawal Bhutto issued a statement soon after the clash between LEAs and protesting PIA workers.

KARACHI (Web Desk) - Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party has condemned the use of ‘brutal force’ against the protesting employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), which resulted in killing of an innocent protester.

In a press statement, the PPP chairman asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to “desist from adopting dictatorial tactics to silence democratic rights of protest of the PIA employees.”

He also expressed sympathies and solidarity with the employees of national flag carrier and assured them that the PPP stands against the privatization of national assets for peanuts and stands with the just cause of the labour class in the country.

A large number of employees under the banner of Joint Action Committee staged protest in front of Jinnah Terminal in Karachi. 

Situation got intense when the law enforcement personnel fire rubber bullets, tear gas shells and used water cannon to disperse the agitated protestors.

Reportedly, one person died while several others were injured during the clash. 

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Spokesman said the Government is handling the issues of PIA in good way.

He said those who are taking law into their hands will be dealt with sternly.

On the other hand, Joint Director of Civil Aviation Authority said all the flights departed for their destinations on time today despite the ongoing strike by several workers.
