Maulana Masood Azhar taken in protective custody over Pathankot attack: sources

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – After Pakistan took several members of outlawed Jaish Mohammad organization over Pathankot airbase attack, Maulana Masood Azhar has also been taken into protective custody, Dunya News reported.

According to details, it was told in the session headed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that a number of members of the banned outfit have been taken into custody in light of intelligence received from India after Pathankot airbase attack.

The sources said that chief of Jaish Mohammad Maulana Masood Azhar has also been taken into protective custody.

Reportedly, the government has also shut down offices of the said banned outfit and it is likely the government will send an investigation team in India.

The media reports suggest that Maulana Masood Azhar and other members are being questioned on the Pathankot attack.

A high level meeting chaired by PM Nawaz took place in Islamabad on Wednesday in which key personalities including Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif participated.

The participants reinforced their resolve not to let Pakistani land use to attack any country. It was told in the meeting that more information is needed in order to advance the investigation and that Pakistan will send a special investigation team after consultation with India.

The Prime Minister House spokesperson said that several members of the banned outfit have been taken into custody after acting on the intelligence provided by India whereas the offices of the same organization are being sealed after identification.

PM Nawaz has formed an investigation team comprising 6 persons to investigate further on the case. The committee comprises of Director Intelligence Bureau Lahore Azeem Arshad, Director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore Usman Anwar, Brigadier Noman Saeed, Military Intelligence’s Lieutenant Colonel Irfan Mirza and Anti-Terrorism Wing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Additional Inspector General (IG) Salahuddin.

Additional IG Counter Terrorism Department Punjab Rai Tahir Naeem will be the convener of the team.
