Targeted operation decimates Karachi extortionists

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Targeted operation by Pakistan Rangers has decimated extortionists and groups including political parties workers involved in street crimes.
The paramilitary force has given a helpline, 1101 to file complaints about extortionists.
Spokesperson for the Rangers said that operations by law enforcers have decimated crime networks in the city. The official said that extortion money is usually demanded under charity .
Victimized people may also approach the law enforcement agency via text messages. Rangers have vowed to keep names of complainants secret.
Earlier today, at least four militants were gunned down by the paramilitary troops in Khaiabad area near Northern bypass of Sindh’s metropolitan.
In another incident, two militants allegedly involved in Safoora carnage have been apprehended from Lahore who would be shifted to Karachi. In May this year, as many as 46 persons were killed after terrorists opened fire at a bus. The act aimed at erupting sectarian violence among different communities.
On November 20, at least three Rangers personnel embraced martyrdom after a mosque was attacked where they were deployed. As many as four troops were injured in the incident.

Rangers and Sindh Police have been targeted by militants several times in the recent past. Since January, 79 policemen have been gunned down in different parts of the city.
Karachi, a sprawling city of roughly 20 million, has long had a reputation for high crime rates as well as ethnic, political and sectarian violence.
Situation has gradually improved in the metropolis since the military launched a crackdown two years ago on armed gangs and suspected militants in Karachi.
