Faisalabad: 1500 officers refuse to perform duties in LB polls

A case under PEEDA Act would be filed against the officers for their denial.

FAISALABAD (Dunya News) – As many as 1500 government officers on Thursday have refused to perform duties assigned by concerning departments in upcoming local bodies election in Faisalabad.

The district government has sought complete report along with the list of employees from the department and has directed the authorities to launch investigation into the matter.

The staffers belonging to Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), agriculture, Sui gas, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and regional tax department showed discontent over their given task.

According to sources, a case under Punjab Employees Efficiency Discipline and Accountability Act (PEEDA) would be filed against the officers for their denial.

PEEDA Act helps to launch proceedings against the employees in government and corporation service in relation to their efficiency, discipline and accountability. It also assists in improving the work efficiency and competency of the workers.

Officers of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) while reviewing its earlier proposed schedule decided to hold first phase of local bodies (LB) polls in Punjab on October 3. The electoral exercise will be held in 12 districts of the Punjab.

Polling for the second phase will be arranged on November 19 this year in Khanewal, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, M.B.Din, Attock and Jhelum districts.

Moreover, the third phase will commence on December 5 in Lyyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhawalpur, Rajan Pur, Rahim yar Khan, Multan, Rawalpindi, Muzaffar Garh, Narowal, Jhang and Khoshab. Various religious parties had requested change in the date since Imam Hussain’s (RA) ‘Chehlum’ is going to be held on December 3.
