PM Nawaz announced the 341 billion rupees relief package for farmers on September 15.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday welcomed the restoration of Kissan Package by the Islamabad High Court.

In a statement, he said that the 341 billion rupees Kissan Package will benefit farmers of the entire country, particularly the small farmer.

The Prime Minister said that farmers will get subsidised loans for agriculture, increased compensation to rice and cotton growers and increase of per index value unit of land from two thousand rupees to four thousand rupees.

He reiterated that the package is for the farmers of Pakistan and will be implemented without any political or regional bias.

The implementation of Kissan Package was suspended by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as it was announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on September 15, less than three weeks after the schedule for local government elections in Punjab and Sindh was announced.

The ECP in its verdict had stated that no development scheme can be announced after issuance of the schedule of the local government elections.

The commission said that the government advertised the package more than it was needed which is also a violation of the code of conduct; therefore, the implementation of 3 major parts of the package was been stopped until December 3.

Later, the government challenged the ECP decision in the Islamabad High Court.

The relief package envisages direct cash assistance to the farmers, relief in prices of agriculture inputs, provision of agriculture loans and simplying the procedure of loans.
