In the greater public interest, I have submitted my resignation from the SAPM role: Tania Aidrus

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Digital Pakistan Tania Aidrus has resigned from the post over dual nationality.

Tania Aidrus, in a tweet said that criticism levied towards the state as a consequence of her citizenship status is clouding the purpose of Digital Pakistan. She added that in the greater public interest, she has submitted her resignation from the SAPM role.

In her resignation letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan, Tania said that she returned to Pakistan with the singular intent to contribute and develop the vision of a Digital Pakistan, a concept which PM have always voiced and she shared.

She added that recent discourse in the public sphere about her Canadian citizenship, which is a consequence of her birth and not an acquisition of choice, is a distraction to her ability to execute on the long term vision for a Digital Pakistan.

She also reiterated her resolve to serve Pakistan and the PM’s vision to the best of her ability through initiatives both in private and public domain.

Later, Zafar Mirza also resigned as Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health Services due to ongoing negative discussion about the role of SAPMs and criticism on the government.

It was a privilege to serve Pakistan. I am satisfied that I leave at a time when COVID-19 has declined in as a result of a grand national effort, he posted on Twitter.
