Deployment of troops for elections completed across country: ISPR
According to ISPR, troops would coordinate with other law enforcement agencies on the polling day.
RAWALPINDI (APP) - Pakistan Army on Monday completed deployment of troops across the country in respective areas of responsibility to provide mandated assistance to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for holding free, fair and transparent Elections 2018.
According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the troops would coordinate with other law enforcement agencies and local administration for ensuring safe and secure environment on the polling day.
ISPR Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor had said that the ECP has requisitioned armed forces under Article 220 and 245 of the Constitution to assist them in free, fair and transparent conduct of Elections 2018.
The DG ISPR said that the armed forces will perform well their assigned duties.
On the other hand, the campaign by political parties for the general election to be held on Wednesday concluded. Over 12,570 candidates are vying for National Assembly and four provincial assemblies. Against the National Assembly seats, as many as 3,675 candidates are in the electoral race whereas 8,895 for the provincial legislatures.
According to the electoral rolls, 105.96 million voters are eligible to cast the vote. In all, 85,307 polling stations have been set up across the country.
Over 20,000 polling stations have been declared sensitive and CCTV cameras have been installed inside and outside these polling stations.
A Control Room has been established at Chief Minister Secretariat Peshawar which is working round the clock. Public can register their complaints with the control room through universal access number 091-713-712-111.
