LAHORE (Dunya News) - Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Monday was shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Services Hospital after successful operation.

Iqbal narrowly escaped an assassination attempt during a corner meeting in his constituency in Narowal on Sunday. was immediately rushed to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital where he received initial treatment.

The minister was later shifted to Lahore’s Services Hospital on a special helicopter to undergo surgery.

Ahsan Iqbal’s son Ahmed Iqbal told Dunya News that the bullet was not extracted out of the abdomen after consultation with the doctors and professors. He said that the minister will be kept in ICU for 24 hours.



Ahsan Iqbal also spoke with Dunya News and said that Allah has saved him whereas he is still in high spirits. He maintained that the prayers of his family and nation are with him and will continue to serve the nation after recovery.

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif and other provincial ministers also visited Iqbal at the hospital and inquired about his health.

Various leaders including President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, COAS Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, PTI chief Imran Khan, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, JI ameer Siraj-ul-Haq and others condemned the assassination attempt on the Interior Minister.


Case registered


A case against the attack has been registered against the 21-year-old arrested suspect Abid Hussain in Garib Shah police station, Narowal in the presence of Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Ishaq.

Sections of attempt to murder, terrorism and possession of illegal firearms have been included in the case.

Moreover, the man who hurled shoe at the interior minister on February 24 is also been investigated in the firing incident.

The Regional Police Officer (RPO) Gujranwala visited the crime scene along with Deputy Commissioner Narowal. He also suspended the Station House Officer (SHO) Shah Garib polioce station over poor security arrangements.


LHC adjourns contempt proceedings


In wake of the assassination attempt on Iqbal, the Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned the hearing of contempt of court against him for 15 days.

A full bench headed by Justice Mazahir Ali Naqvi heard the case during which the government lawyer informed the court about his client’s condition.

The court had summoned the interior minister over the petition filed by advocate Azhar Siddique and had also directed to submit a written explanation.
