Medical stores shutterdown strike in Punjab enters sixth day

Patients are in serious trouble as it has become difficult for them to find medicines.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The shutterdown strike of medical stores against the Drug act 2017 across Punjab entered sixth day on Tuesday, Dunya News reported.

Patients are facing difficulties in getting medicines for the past five days as pharmacies in different cities of Punjab including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Rahim Yar Khan and Rawalpindi are closed.

The owners of the medical stores say that the Drug Act is a black law therefore the government should suspend it. They are demanding the authorities to halt raids at medical stores and laboratories.

It is pertinent here to mention that according to new drug act in Punjab, punishment of five-year jail with one million rupees fine has been announced for those who will sale substandard medicines, five-year jail and five crore rupees fine for those who will sale fake medicines, ten-year jail and ten crore rupees fine for those who will sale medicines without license.

Punjab government has also given its statement over this issue and said it will keep on taking stern action against those who sale fake and counterfeit medicines.
