Committee will be headed by federal ombudsman

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday announced to establish a committee to raise education standard in the country.

According to Dunya News, the decision to this effect was made during a meeting on education reforms at the Supreme Court of Pakistan. CJP Nisar presided over a meeting, which was attended by Federal Ombudsman Tahir Shahbaz, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, CADD secretary and federal and provincial education secretaries.

Addressing the meeting, the chief justice said that education is constitutional right of every citizen under the Article 25(A) of constitution and vowed to take every step to raise quality of education in the country.

The chief justice went on to say that education plays a pivotal role in the progress of a country.

He said that it was not a duty of courts, but of state institutions to frame an education policy. “The court can only ensure its implementation.”

The CJP, while announcing to constitute committee under the head of the federal ombudsman, sought names from institutions concerned for committee members.

The committee, he said, would forward proposals to bring improvements to the system.
