Paragon Housing Scheme case: Saad Rafique terms NAB's move as black law

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Railways Saad Rafique on Wednesday lashed out at National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding Paragon City case and said that its law is ‘black’.

Holding a press conference after appearance in the case, Saad Rafique said that he has submitted a written reply over NAB questionnaire along with comprehensive details of the assets. He also assured to timely respond to bureau’s further queries.

Whenever accountability in the country is held, its purpose is undefined, he added.

The minister said that his and his family’s media trial was carried out despite efforts and achievements for Pakistan. He revealed that investigation against him has been sped up as elections’ date nears.

Saad Rafique said that false allegations, lies, political divisions and infighting will cause Pakistan irreparable harm, continuing judicial activism is strong because of the joint efforts of political parties against dictatorships.

He also suggested to decide politicians’ qualifications through elections.

Talking on Senate elections, he stated that everyone knows Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) dealt with each other for the polls. Both parties should openly admit it, he asked. 

On March 10, Saad Rafique had appeared in Supreme Court (SC) in a suo moto notice during which, he clarified Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar that he has no links with Paragon City. The CJP sought Rafique’s affidavit and asked him to say whatever he says before media.

Previously, NAB raided the office of Paragon City (Pvt) Ltd and took several files and laptops in possession. The raid was conducted in relation to ongoing probe against alleged irregularities in Ashiana Housing Scheme.

NAB had expanded the ongoing investigation against mammoth financial irregularities in Ashiana Housing Scheme and LDA City projects. The team of the NAB remained inside office of Paragon City (Pvt) Ltd for over two hours.
